PRESTO Final Conference

PRESTO Final Conference will be the corollary of the activities implemented within the framework of PRESTO. It will serve as well as follow up to previous actions carried out in PRESTO and will summarise a balance of results and lessons learnt. 

In the first session, a brief recapitulation of activities carried out and results achieved throughout the project will be presented. Furthermore, this session will include some presentations which will illustrate the state-of-the-art of collaboration links achieved after the High Level Group Consultation Meeting in Bilbao and the plans ahead.  

The second session will focus on a series of presentations under the motto: "Working together towards a more innovative and sustainable construction sector: European collaboration and opportunities in R&D".  These presentations are aimed at providing the participants with a general overview on collaboration opportunities in Europe and, based on some best practice examples, at fomenting further ideas for cooperation.

Owing to special interactive exhibitions, fairs are no longer just a static presentation of the market offer, but a modern marketing event that enables effective communication between exhibitors and visitors. At the Budma fair, this role is among others performed by the BudShow project. It will be already the fifth edition of this event organised by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie and ARDO Marketing Communication Agency.

Earlier editions of this event have been evaluated as very good, both by partners, media and above all - visitors. Therefore, organisers have decided to continue this event in a new, even more interesting and richer format. In Pavilion 12 at Budma 2010, a model house will be constructed that meets sustainable construction requirements, i.e. is eco-friendly, ergonomic, energy-efficient, powered by renewable energy, non-polluting and ensuring comfortable rest in a healthy environment. Traditional materials combined with state-of-the-art technology will be used in the construction process.

The attractive formula of BudShow enables exhibitors to showcase their products in an innovative and dynamic manner, while giving visitors a chance to actively participate in the project. The model house will be presented in three different areas. The first one is the „House in construction" exhibition: specially prepared cross-sections of the structure and its different elements will help participants gain insight into products and technologies used along with their proper applications. It will be accompanied by shows of assembly of elements supplied by project partners with live commentary provided by the moderator. Shows will take place many times during each trade fair day according to a pre-defined schedule. The final element of this special space will be the exhibition of a ready to move in part of the house.

BudShow project partners are companies from the construction, installation and interior decoration sectors, manufacturers and suppliers of construction materials, roof coverings, insulation, door and window joinery, construction chemicals, installation materials, modern heating systems (including solar systems), finishing materials (drywall partitioning, paints, ceramic tiles, floors, furnishing for bathrooms and other rooms), landscape structures and elements of interior and garden decoration.

As a natural construction material, wood is once again increasingly popular with investors, in particular private investors. Interiors of wooden houses have a unique atmosphere with a soothing effect on the mind. It is also important that buildings made of wood are fully biodegradable, and thus truly eco-friendly. Examples of cutting-edge solutions implemented in wooden constructions will be showcased at the Village of Wooden Houses special exposition, unique in the European scale. Wooden houses built using different technologies will be placed at the outdoor fairgrounds. A presentation of solutions in wooden housing will be given by the Wooden House Association. Under its auspices, a model timber framed house will be developed at the fair.

All year round, a passive house ensures proper indoor climate, resulting from the perceived thermal comfort and optimum ventilation following continuing supply of fresh air. Virtually any building, either new or modernised, can be now constructed in this standard, namely single-family and multi-family houses, council housing, office buildings, commercial facilities, hotels, schools, sports halls, swimming pools and industrial facilities.

In passive houses, heat losses are reduced to such a degree that passive energy sources, such as solar energy permeating through windows and heat generated by inhabitants or being a side effect of the operation of household appliances, suffice to compensate for these losses. Only when it is freezing outside, additional supplementary heating is used: usually with warmed air supplied by the ventilation system. Contrary to what you may think, construction of a passive house is not much more expensive than in the case of a traditional one. According to the Polish Passive House Institute, passive housing is at present about 5-7 % more expensive in Western Europe. In Poland, additional costs are estimated at a level of 10-15 per cent.

Advantages of houses built in accordance with sustainable construction guidelines will be presented at Budma as part of a special exposition of companies offering passive construction materials and solutions (Pavilion 15) and during the two-day series of seminars and presentations: International Knowledge Transfer Conference - Passive construction from A to Z. At the conference, successfully completed passive house projects from different European countries will be presented. The first day of the forum (20 January) is addressed to representatives of marshall's offices, province governor offices, local authorities of towns and communities, as well as universities and investors. The second day of the forum (21 January) is open for architects, designers, civil and environment engineers, housing developers, contractors, building control inspectors, real estate administrators, representatives of Social Housing Associations, thermal modernisation auditors and manufacturers of materials and components for passive construction. Project is organised by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie in collaboration with the Polish Passive House Institute.

The leading theme of the next edition of BUDMA International Construction Fair, which will be held in Poznań from 19 to 22 January 2010, will be "Sustainable construction". Sustainable development is one of the most important and topical issues relating to all spheres of human activity and economic growth. This trend is reflected in the motto of next year's nineteenth edition of the BUDMA fair, which reads: "Sustainable construction - economy, ecology, human". Other shows held simultaneously at the Poznań fair grounds will include BUMASZ International Fair of Construction and Road Building Machines, Vehicles and Equipment, as well as CBS - Sports Facilities, Amenity Areas, Wellness & Spa.

The construction trade fairs held in January in Poznan will gather about 1500 leading producers and distributors on the surface of nearly 60.000 sq. m. (gross). Among the presented solutions there will be novelties and market debuts.

Sustainable construction

"Sustainable construction" stands for conscious adherence to the principles of economy, ecology and ergonomics in the construction industry, aiming to optimise buildings' thermal performance while ensuring safety, comfort and usability, and minimising the environmental impact. It is important to employ sustainable materials for this purpose, i.e. eco and human friendly raw materials capable of reducing noise, interference and waste. Moreover, such materials must be biodegradable or recyclable after demolition.

20 January, within the Architecture Day thre will be a lecture on: "Situation in ecological construction in Europe - challanges preventing the neccesity of transformation in construction sector" by Adrian Joyce from Architects' Council of Europe, Brussels.

 Adrian M Joyce is Senior Adviser at the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE), based at the ACE Secretariat in Brussels.  His role involves monitoring the work of the EU Institutions, with a view to distilling those aspects that are of importance to the architectural profession and to the maintenance of a quality built environment.  He advises the ACE and its Member Organisations on policy formation and development.

He is a professionally qualified architect who, having graduated from University College Dublin in 1984, spent 17 years in private practice (working in London and in his native city, Dublin) before getting involved full-time in architectural policy and was, for 18 months, the Practice Director of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.  He also holds a part-time teaching post at the Higher Institute for Architecture (St. Luc) in Brussels teaching Construction Technology.

The main aim of the conference is to disseminate PRESTO project results and lessons learnt.

 The Presto final conference will be the event where a follow up of previous actions carried out in PRESTO PROJECT will be presented.

In the first session, an overview on the first actions carried out after the HIGH LEVEL GROUP CONSULTATION MEETING in Bilbao will be given and future plans for the dissemination and use of PRESTO project results will be presented. The session is addressed to PRESTO Core Group and invited representatives of EU level organizations.

The second open session will focus on the presentation of PRESTO project results to a wider audience and on the discussion on collaboration in construction: "Working together towards a more innovative and sustainable construction sector". During the session presentations of best practices are foreseen.

PRESTO Final Conference - AGENDA

Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie has launched its online visitor centre at www.mtp24.pl. The intended users of the new online service are visitors planning to take part in any event organized at MTP's grounds.

The benefits of the new platform include faster registration at selected events, e-ticket purchase functionality or online application facility involving completion and printout of a registration survey to allow ticket purchase at ticket offices on MTP's grounds.

A one-off registration and selection of a unique password are required to use the service. Each registered user may log in as many times as needed and apply for participation in any number of selected events. Users may also review their transaction records and print out duplicates of any issued documents.

Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie is implementing standards that are present in many trade fair centres by introducing changes to the visitor registration system and in the standards of services to trade fair visitors.

In September, you will experience new registration points in the Eastern Lobby (entrance from ul. Głogowska) and the WTC Lobby (entrance from ul. Bukowska). A professional visitor registration system based on barcodes will be another new development.

Barcodes are present on all documents admitting participants to the fair grounds (tickets, invitations, exhibitors' cards, press cards', vehicle entry passes). Admission to the fair grounds will be possible after scanning the code in a reader in a turnstile.

Please note: retain your admission documents throughout your visit to the fair because you will also need them at the exit (the barcode will have to be scanned in the turnstile).

On all trade fair days assistance will be offered to visitors by the Client Assistant in the Eastern Lobby (entrance from ul. Głogowska) and the WTC Lobby (entrance from ul. Bukowska).

Once again The Poznan International Fair (pol. Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie; MTP) is on the first place among Polish exhibition organisers - results from the statistic report on the Polish trade fair market in 2008, which was published by the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry (pol. Polska Izba Przemysłu Targowego; PIPT).

In nine out of ten ratings carried out within the framework of PIPT report Poznan International Fair reached the position of the unquestionable leader. It beat its competitors with respect to the total fair area rented during 2008 as well as to the number of exhibitors and visitors.

Considering the total fair area, the MTP's shares in the market amounted to nearly 50% (the rise of more than 2% in relation to 2007). Also the number of its exhibitors and visitors grew up. Trade fair events organised in 2008 on the grounds of the Poznań fair were attended by more than 12 000 exhibitors and over 340 000 visitors, which is respectively nearly 39% and over 32% shares in the whole Polish trade fair market. What is more, in events organised by Poznan International Fair took part over 52% of 5460 foreign exhibitors.

In the specification of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry there was also included the rating with reference to the number of exhibitors in particular events. Twelve out of twenty positions of the biggest Polish fairs fell to Poznan International Fair. First two places were occupied respectively by International Construction Fair - BUDMA with the impressive number of 1250 exhibitors and ITM fairs - Innovations - Technologies - Machines Poland, which may boast of the presence of nearly 1000 exhibitors. Also the 14th Congress of Dental Teams - CEDE organised by the Exactus company is on the list of the fairs' giants that this year will take place on the grounds of Poznań International Fair. 

The report published by the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry proves that the position of The Poznań International Fair is strengthening year to year - says Przemysław Trawa, Chairman of the MTP Board - Our last year's results are much better than those achieved in 2007. We have noted the highest increase on the Polish market with reference to the fair area rented as well as the number of visitors. In response to the constantly growing market expectations, we are still developing ourselves by widening our offer and gaining the trust of new clients.   

In spite of the ongoing crisis, the number of events organised by The Poznan International Fair in 2009 will not decrease in comparison to the last year. The period of economic slowdown appears to be a good time for MTP to launch new brands. One of them is Poznan Media Expo which for the first time took place in the end of February and almost immediately received very positive opinions of exhibitors.

Other events that will make their debut on The Poznan International Fair during this year are, among others, The International Fair for Renewable Energy - GreenPOWER and Robotics International Fair - AUTOMA. Both events already enjoy a great interest of clients and visitors.

18th International Construction Fair Budma 2009 has started. On the exhibition surface of over 41000 sq. metres more than 1300 exhibitors from 35 countries present their offers. According to the Puls Biznesu magazine, the Poznań-based Budma Fair was the biggest trade show in 2007, with nearly 1400 exhibitors showcasing their offers in an area of almost 37,000 sq m. The forthcoming edition of this major construction business fair in this part of Europe will be particularly interesting in terms of the number of newly launched solutions, some of them having their "world premiere" in Poznań.
